The organization was founded in 2015 at the University of Southern California in order connect medical students to nearby local elementary, middle, and high school and school students in order to inspire safe lifestyle practice by reducing impact of UV exposure. The program is partnered with IMPACT (Improving Melanoma Prevention, through Awareness, Care & Teaching) and ultimately seeks to reduce incidences of melanoma and eye disease by introducing early public health interventions and promoting awareness. As part of UCSF’s UV&Me, we encourage interest in the medical field and spread awareness regarding sun protection.
Briefly, the organization of our curriculum consists of trivia to assess the class's knowledge regarding UV exposure, interactive videos, review of personal stories of melanoma survivors, medical vignettes and cases to exemplify medical school derived problem solving, and so much more! This course would take up just one class period, ranging from 30mins~ 1 hr.
