AGEISM AWARENESS DAY
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2023

Ageism compounds inequities related to racism, sexism and ableism.
Multiple intersecting forms of bias increase disadvantage
and worsen the effects of ageism on individuals’ health and well-being.

Ageism Awareness Day on Saturday, October 7, 2023, is an opportunity to draw attention to the existence and impact of ageism in our society and how we can reframe aging in our communities.

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines ageism as “the stereotypes (how we think), prejudice (how we feel) and discrimination (how we act) towards others or oneself based on age.

According to the United States Census, approximately 21% of California residents are currently 60 and older. By 2030, this number is expected to be 25%. By 2035, the number of people over 60 will outnumber those under 18 for the first time in the United States. Ageism impacts us all.
