About Us
In current medical school curriculums, especially on the west coast, medical students' exposure to the combined field of adult internal medicine and pediatrics is limited. While med-peds has a rich 40-year history, there is still currently a void of med-peds residency training programs in the Northwest US. This course will shed light on a lesser known, but highly valuable career path that offers the depth and breadth of two disciplines, as well as flexible career goals and a broad range of specialized patient niches, including ever-growing populations of children with serious and chronic illnesses that survive into adulthood with these same illnesses, for whom dually-trained physicians are well-matched. The Internal-Medicine Pediatrics (Med-Peds) Interest Group presents an opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in internal medicine, pediatrics, or a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics (otherwise known as "med-peds") to be exposed to faculty members and careers within the combined med-peds field, including career pathways, training venues and opportunities, and the similarities and dissimilarities that exist between a med-peds program and separate medicine or pediatrics programs.
