“Cranes for Cancer” events, often inspired by the story of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, are fundraising and awareness campaigns that use origami cranes as a symbol of hope and healing for children battling cancer, with the goal of supporting pediatric research and providing comfort to patients and their families. In this 1.5-hour event, we will adopt these practices to increase awareness of pediatric cancer research and invite participants to join in origami crane making, which will later be gifted to pediatric cancer patients at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. During the event, 1-2 invited UCSF faculty will present their research and/or work with serving pediatric patients and their families to attendees, which will include the UCSF community.
