About Us
TICKS aims to create a supportive space and framework for future health providers to discuss, practice, and learn approaches to incorporating and providing trauma informed care. As an organization, we respect the full breadth of traumatic experiences and the complex ways in which they affect our patients' experience of health and healthcare. We seek to blunt the inherent clinical hierarchy by actively providing care from a position of mutual respect, acknowledged autonomy, and shared expertise. We hope to create a community of students from all the different health professions who not only recognize the health implications of trauma, but also wish to learn the skills to provide the thoughtful and holistic care that all patients deserve. We intend to partner with community and academic experts from diverse backgrounds to impart skills that include interviewing techniques, physical exams, and humble approaches to discussing personal safety, sexuality, substance abuse, and stress.
