Medical Student Involvement

The OASIS clinic is uniquely poised to provide incoming medical students with in-person, hands-on experience in observing and conducting minor surgical procedures. In addition, with early exposure to surgical treatment modalities, we hope to provide an enriching experience that will allow students to make a more informed and confident decision regarding the choice between pursuing surgical and non-surgical specialities.

Under the supervision of an attending provider, students will get hands-on experience in wound care, prescription management and minor procedures. In addition, given that many of the patients who come to OASIS are from a socioeconomically disadvantaged population, students will be able to sharpen their engagement with underserved patients. Medical students shall also input a brief patient summary into a Red Cap database. The purpose of the patient summary is to boost confidence and competence in writing up procedure notes and gathering clinical data.
