Denali Therapeutics Career and Professional Development Panel

On May 11th, BE-STEM and SACNAS hosted a career and professional development panel with Denali Therapeutics! This panel included professionals of different backgrounds and careers that provided their advice on transitioning into an industry career. This workshop also included resumé tips, networking, and guidance on selecting the internship that is right for you.

Black Matters Film Screening w/ SFSU BE-STEM

On April 21st, San Francisco State University's (SFSU) BE-STEM chapter hosted a film screening of "Black Matters" with directors Valeria King and Khansaa Maar of UC Berkeley, along with a panel discussion on the Black experience in higher education and industry.

On March 14th, BE-STEM, along with the Restorative Justice Program, held a community circle to foster trust and communication within our organization. Members got to discuss their own needs and experiences in BE-STEM, graduate school, and science while strengthening relationships within the group through shared perspectives.

Virtual Black Jeopardy

On February 4th, 2021, in honor of Black History Month, we partnered with student group SNMA-UCSF, UCSF MRC and the School of Pharmacy to host a trivia night dedicated to celebrating Black history and culture hosted over zoom. The questions for the jeopardy game allowed students the chance learn more about aspects of Black history they weren't aware of in a friendly and fun way.

The QBC Graduate Programs (BMI, BP, CCB, & PSPG) held an event in honor of Juneteenth on June 18th, 2021. Space was limited due to the restrictions of the pandemic, but BE-STEM was given priority for attendance.

Joyful: Honoring our Black Scientists and Leaders

On March 31st, 2021, the Assistant Dean for Diversity and Learner Success D'Anne Duncan and the Diversity and Outreach Program Manager Zachary Smith organized the Joyful event. It was a fun and relaxing gathering to celebrate Black History. During this event we honored and uplifted members of our Black student community, and celebrated the profound impact that our Black students have had on UCSF and the greater community as a whole. This was also  an opportunity to reconnect and build new relationships within our community.
