The Academy of General Dentistry Chapter at UCSF has information and resources specific to the needs of dental students who are interested in exploring the scope of general dentistry. Other allied dental organizations like the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of Laser Dentistry, and Academy of Implant Dentistry look to the AGD for leadership in issues affecting the general dentistry community. The AGD is the primary community of interest invited for input to the ADA on issues affecting the general dentists. The AGD provides dental students with various activities and resources, such as education development, mentor program, career assistance, practice management tools, and award and recognition.

The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) is a professional association of pharmacists and associates who serve patients and the public by the promotion of wellness and rational drug therapy through the application of managed care principles. The Academy has more than 8,000 members nationally who provide comprehensive coverage and services to the more than 200 million Americans served by managed care. The Student Chapter at UCSF is dedicated to expanding awareness and understanding of managed care on campus. Our events are designed to educate our members about current trends in managed care, offer opportunities to interact with professionals in the field, and obtain hands-on experience through participation in projects such as the P&T Competition. In addition, we organize an annual elective course that exposes students to core concepts and career opportunities in managed care pharmacy.

The Academy of Sleep Medicine and Dentistry (ASMD) is dedicated to bringing attention and consideration to the science of sleep medicine across the various professional disciplines at UCSF and campuses worldwide. In addition to hearing renowned guest speakers, students will also have the chance to collaborate on the development of a sleep medicine elective, and will additionally share their findings on pertinent sleep research. Above all, ASMD strives to educate students about common sleep disorders through the research and presentation of meta-analyses and to support leaders who can use their academic training and specialties to craft innovative solutions for the future of sleep medicine.

According to the WHO, about 85% of waste generated by healthcare-related activities are general, non-hazardous waste.
The Alliance for Pharmacy Sustainability (APS) is a UCSF School of Pharmacy registered campus organization. Our ultimate mission is to improve quality of life for all through ensuring proper disposal and better sustainability practices for pharmacy-associated medical supplies and medications. We will work towards our goal by searching for and delivering resources to pharmacies to help reduce their waste and to educate members of our communities on proper disposal options for pharmacy-related waste. We aim to foster relationships with pharmacies to help find better solutions to reduce their waste and increase the amount of waste recycled. Additionally, we are committed to actively engaging with our community via outreach to community pharmacies and other outpatient settings to help communities understand the how's and why's of safe and ecological pharmacy-related waste disposal.
We will adapt our understanding of the best environmental sustainability practices in the field of pharmacy and healthcare as they evolve, and incorporate these changes into our education and community outreach practices. We aim to ensure the field of pharmacy is actively engaged in reducing pharmacy-related waste while practicing more sustainable habits for our communities. Overall, we hope to make an impact that will ultimately help us reach carbon neutrality.

The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Student Chapter at the UCSF School of Dentistry strives to promote excellence in all aspects of dental education. We aim to address the need for dental educators, to encourage the pursuit of careers in academia and research, to further post-graduation education /specialty programs, to outreach, mentor and recruit under-represented students into dentistry and to promote oral health.
Local activities include:
1) Seniors Brush Up. ADEA provides dental screenings, oral health care education to the elderly population.
2) Impressions Conference. Pre-dental undergrads come to UCSF for speakers, dental demos, mock-interviews, personal statement reviews and mentorship.
3) High School Outreach Conference (HSOC). Interprofessional health care conference. Over 300 high school students from diverse/ low-income areas come to UCSF. We aim to expose students to careers in health care.
4) "What Matters To Me Most and Why" Lunch and Learn series where dental faculty speak about why they chose to enter into academia
5) Faciltate UCSF's Academic Dental Careers Fellowship Program (ADCFP) which provides structured mentoring to dental students as they take on an academia related research project.

The Asian Pacific American Medical Students Association (APAMSA) is a national organization of medical and pre-medical students committed to addressing the unique health challenges of Asian and Pacific Islander American (APIA) communities. APAMSA serves as a forum for student leaders to engage these health issues and develop initiatives and projects addressing those needs. The local, regional, and national activities of APAMSA aim to promote the health of the APIA community and help healthcare workers understand how to care for APIA patients in a culturally sensitive manner. Finally, APAMSA provides an important venue for medical students to meet, exchange experiences, and develop personally and professionally through leadership and service.

APAMSA's foundation was laid in 1993 by Asian American students worried about the present and future of the APIA community. Dr. B Li co- founded the e-mail bulletin board 'AAMSnet' for Asian American medical students in 1994 and co-formed the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association in 1995.

APAMSA was formed because issues of APIA health were largely ignored by existing organizations. Since its initial formation in 1995, APAMSA chapters have formed at schools across the country to improve the health and well-being of the APIA community and promote understanding of the unique challenges Asian Pacific Americans face in medicine.

Even with efforts to increase the number of minority ethnic groups in science and medicine, the proportion of black men pursuing and obtaining degrees in these fields has reached a historic low. In 1986, 57% of black medical school graduates were men — but by 2015 that number had dropped to just 35%, even as the total number of black graduates in all fields had increased.1 By providing opportunities for networking, community-building, and mentorship, Black Men in Medicine at UCSF strives to dismantle the barriers that have perpetuated the dearth of black men in the field and act as a resource for those currently pursuing careers in medicine to find success.

The weekly meeting on Friday evening from 5:30-9:00 pm is a fellowship for students and scholars and their families living around the UCSF campus. The purpose of CEF is to preach the Gospel and to provide social and spiritual support for these people, especially those new comers as they manage to be successful in their academic and research pursuit at UCSF, while adapting their lives in a new country and community. The meeting format usually includes fellowship, bible study, guest speaker presentation, video viewing, and many sessions of questions and answers. Cardiac Camp at UCSF is an entirely free, hands-on learning experience for Underrepresented Minorities in Medicine, specifically Black, Latinx, Native American, and mainland Puerto Rican high school students from under-resourced school districts/regions of the Bay Area. During this week-long immersive experience, selected students will learn about the basic anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system, heart disease and prevention in early and late life, and be exposed to live cardiac testing modalities. These students will have the unique opportunity to not only build health literacy for themselves but to also disseminate basic health knowledge to the communities they arise from, with the hope of addressing the distrust in medical care that exists in underserved/disadvantaged communities.

In addition, students will be partnered with UCSF affiliated faculty and students who will provide longitudinal mentorship in their pursuit of higher education. Cardiac Camp will be funded by several Departments and Organizations at UCSF, such that all resources, lectures, and hands-on experiences are entirely free to students.

Carry the One Radio was founded in 2009 by Sama Ahmed, Karuna Meda, and Bryan Sebold, then students in the Neuroscience Graduate Program at the University of California, San Francisco. We got our start interviewing researchers about their work and posting our conversations online, hoping to make science accessible to everyone.

Our format has changed since then, but our mission has stayed the same: ignite scientific curiosity. Run by a small group of dedicated young scientists at UCSF, Carry the One aims to showcase what makes science so exciting - the joy of discovery, the beauty of nature, and the promise of a better tomorrow.

The Chamber Music Society at UCSF (CMS at UCSF) is a student-run organization dedicated to creating opportunities for UCSF student and residents to participate in chamber musical performance and community outreach. The Society encourages students and residents to share their artistic talents through free concerts at UCSF, as well as through outreach and benefit performances at local healthcare organizations such as rehabilitation and hospice care facilities. The Society organizes sight-reading sessions at the beginning of each semester for musicians to form longitudinal chamber music groups, and helps them prepare for performances at the end of each semester. (1) Promoting access to affordable oral healthcare throughout immigrant and refugee communities by building lasting partnerships with local agencies to ensure the longevity of increased preventative care and oral health education
(2) Supporting and empowering immigrant & refugee student communities to seek careers in dentistry to increase diversity within the field

Description/purpose:
The purpose of the Dermatology Access Group (DAG) is to create a bridge between San Francisco shelters and the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFGH). Although a small number of shelter residents are able to receive adequate dermatologic care, the majority of residents face significant obstacles to proper assessment and treatment such as lack of information and education of shelter providers for referrals, dismissal of dermatologic complications as insignificant, and individual hesitancy and mistrust of larger healthcare systems.
Having worked in the Dermatology Shelter Clinic for the past year, the dermatology residents and I found that there was a significant disconnect between shelter residents and ZSFGH. Furthermore, providers were unable to provide adequate care to dermatologic complications due to inherent limitations of a clinic such as limited workforce and treatment options. As creation of two parallel systems of care would be ineffective and counterproductive, we seek to integrate patients more expediently into the existing medical system at ZSFGH.
Throughout the year, we identified that a major barrier to proper dermatology care is shelter providers' lack of information, knowledge and time to refer dermatologic concerns to the ZSFGH dermatology department. After discussion, the various dermatology attendings, medical residents and medical school coordinators deemed that it was necessary to initiate a separate student organization to provide shelters with liaisons to train and assist shelter providers in connecting residents with dermatology complaints to ZSFGH.
In doing so, we hope to reduce these significant obstacles in accessing care that have only worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic for shelter residents experiencing serious, clinically consequential dermatologic illnesses.

Mission: The Dermatology Access Group seeks to address healthcare disparities of unhoused populations of San Francisco by providing education and assistance to San Francisco shelters that will connect residents with dermatologic needs to ZSFGH in order to promote equitable care. In the future, we will also seek to promote access to healthcare through community partnerships with farmworkers and other community organizations.

Our mission is to help trans and cis incarcerated women better understand their bodies and learn about health-related subjects that are important to them. We have developed several 60-90-minute workshops that meet once a week at the San Francisco County Jail. Our curriculum involves anatomy models and diagrams (hands-on learning), games (jeopardy and family feud), and teach-backs (providing the opportunity for women to teach one another and take ownership of the material). This volunteer opportunity is currently on hold due to Covid-19, but will hopefully resume when the jail is again open to visitors. We hope to build the advocacy arm of our group in its stead as we await re-opening, working on behalf of women currently and formerly incarcerated by way of political action.

During the fall quarter, we also lead an inter-professional elective (1.0 credits P/F). The Health, Policing, and Incarceration Elective brings together students from the UCSF health professional schools to learn about the intersections of health, healthcare, and the prison-industrial complex (PIC). Students will learn about the effects of police violence and incarceration on physical, mental, and community health; the landscape of healthcare access within U.S. carceral facilities; and the specific implications of the prison-industrial complex for particular communities. The elective will cover the intersections of these issues with other health-related topics such as reproductive justice, mental health, substance use, LGBTQ+ health, and immigration. Each week, various speakers—including formerly incarcerated people, healthcare professionals, researchers, and community organizers—will share their experiences and expertise with the class with the opportunity for questions and discussion.

In current medical school curriculums, especially on the west coast, medical students' exposure to the combined field of adult internal medicine and pediatrics is limited. While med-peds has a rich 40-year history, there is still currently a void of med-peds residency training programs in the Northwest US. This course will shed light on a lesser known, but highly valuable career path that offers the depth and breadth of two disciplines, as well as flexible career goals and a broad range of specialized patient niches, including ever-growing populations of children with serious and chronic illnesses that survive into adulthood with these same illnesses, for whom dually-trained physicians are well-matched.

The Internal-Medicine Pediatrics (Med-Peds) Interest Group presents an opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in internal medicine, pediatrics, or a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics (otherwise known as "med-peds") to be exposed to faculty members and careers within the combined med-peds field, including career pathways, training venues and opportunities, and the similarities and dissimilarities that exist between a med-peds program and separate medicine or pediatrics programs.

The Interventional Radiology Interest Group (IRIG) is a student-run organization to help students explore the field of Interventional Radiology (IR). OSI's mission is to educate both patients and physicians about cancer treatment-associated dermatology side effects. Our RCO has a unique two branch structure which consists of the Education Core and Recreational Activity Core.

The Education Core works to create lectures that explore health education with an emphasis on condition/disease/disorder specific non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatments. We aim to educate patients, friends, and families in our community on the importance of recreational activities for both mental and physical wellness.

The Recreational Activity Core aims to promote mental and physical wellness, as well as team building by organizing sporting events and outdoor activities. Pharmacy Homeless Clinic seeks to provide student pharmacists opportunities to practice clinical skills and apply therapeutic knowledge towards serving patients experiencing houselessness at St. Vincent de Paul Society. Student volunteers at Pharmacy Homeless Clinic work collaboratively with preceptors in an interdisciplinary setting to interview and assess patients, create treatment plans, and counsel on both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic recommendations.

The objective of Phi Delta Chi Pharmacy Fraternity is to advance the science of pharmacy and foster fraternal spirit among its members. PDC provides student pharmacists the opportunity to network with upperclassmen and alumni. We host many events for incoming student pharmacists, such as a professional night information session of alumni working in various fields of pharmacy and informal academic review sessions. We hold fundraisers for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. We give presentations to local undergraduate pre-pharmacy clubs about pharmacy school, and we hold a community service event quarterly. Because it is a national pharmacy fraternity, PDC members have the opportunity to attend leader development seminars and to network with other pharmacists and students from all over the country. Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS) is a national pharmacy leadership society comprised of pharmacy students, practitioners, and professors. PLS was first founded in 1965 at Auburn University and, as of 2019, 127 chapters are active at pharmacy schools across the United States and Puerto Rico. Our mission is to support pharmacy leadership commitment by recognizing leaders and fostering leadership development.

The Beta Beta chapter at UCSF School of Pharmacy was established in 1993. As a leadership society, we strive to: 1) Ensure continuing availability of pharmacy leaders, 2) Acknowledge leadership achievement, 3) Enhance the skills of pharmacy leaders, and 4) Encourage sustained leadership commitment. Notable PLS Beta Beta Chapter members include B. Joseph Guglielmo, Mary Anne Koda-Kimble, Don Kishi, Sharon Youmans, Jennifer Cocohoba, Marilyn Stebbins, Lisa Kroon, and Jaekyu Shin. Currently, our chapter has ~25 student members, ~100 faculty members, and ~400 alumni.
