The Academy of General Dentistry Chapter at UCSF has information and resources specific to the needs of dental students who are interested in exploring the scope of general dentistry. Other allied dental organizations like the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of Laser Dentistry, and Academy of Implant Dentistry look to the AGD for leadership in issues affecting the general dentistry community. The AGD is the primary community of interest invited for input to the ADA on issues affecting the general dentists. The AGD provides dental students with various activities and resources, such as education development, mentor program, career assistance, practice management tools, and award and recognition.

The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) is a professional association of pharmacists and associates who serve patients and the public by the promotion of wellness and rational drug therapy through the application of managed care principles. The Academy has more than 8,000 members nationally who provide comprehensive coverage and services to the more than 200 million Americans served by managed care. The Student Chapter at UCSF is dedicated to expanding awareness and understanding of managed care on campus. Our events are designed to educate our members about current trends in managed care, offer opportunities to interact with professionals in the field, and obtain hands-on experience through participation in projects such as the P&T Competition. In addition, we organize an annual elective course that exposes students to core concepts and career opportunities in managed care pharmacy.

The Academy of Sleep Medicine and Dentistry (ASMD) is dedicated to bringing attention and consideration to the science of sleep medicine across the various professional disciplines at UCSF and campuses worldwide. In addition to hearing renowned guest speakers, students will also have the chance to collaborate on the development of a sleep medicine elective, and will additionally share their findings on pertinent sleep research. Above all, ASMD strives to educate students about common sleep disorders through the research and presentation of meta-analyses and to support leaders who can use their academic training and specialties to craft innovative solutions for the future of sleep medicine.

Dental Aesthetics Club is a student-run organization that provides students with an introduction to the aesthetic principles of dentistry. Through speakers from a range of dental specialties such as general dentistry, prosthodontics, oral surgery, and orthodontics, we aim to expose members to in-depth topics and topics that may not be covered in standard curriculum. For example, crowns, veneers, injectables, dental spas, prosthetic rehabilitation, cleft lip and orthognathic surgery, and aesthetic orthodontic techniques. We aim to bring discussions of topics of emerging technologies, innovations, continuing education opportunities for new graduates, and future career paths. Our goal is to facilitate connections with aesthetic dentists and fellow students through networking events, social events, and webinars.

According to the WHO, about 85% of waste generated by healthcare-related activities are general, non-hazardous waste.
The Alliance for Pharmacy Sustainability (APS) is a UCSF School of Pharmacy registered campus organization. Our ultimate mission is to improve quality of life for all through ensuring proper disposal and better sustainability practices for pharmacy-associated medical supplies and medications. We will work towards our goal by searching for and delivering resources to pharmacies to help reduce their waste and to educate members of our communities on proper disposal options for pharmacy-related waste. We aim to foster relationships with pharmacies to help find better solutions to reduce their waste and increase the amount of waste recycled. Additionally, we are committed to actively engaging with our community via outreach to community pharmacies and other outpatient settings to help communities understand the how's and why's of safe and ecological pharmacy-related waste disposal.
We will adapt our understanding of the best environmental sustainability practices in the field of pharmacy and healthcare as they evolve, and incorporate these changes into our education and community outreach practices. We aim to ensure the field of pharmacy is actively engaged in reducing pharmacy-related waste while practicing more sustainable habits for our communities. Overall, we hope to make an impact that will ultimately help us reach carbon neutrality.

The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Student Chapter at the UCSF School of Dentistry strives to promote excellence in all aspects of dental education. Local activities include:
1) Seniors Brush Up. ADEA provides dental screenings, oral health care education to the elderly population.

3) High School Outreach Conference (HSOC). Interprofessional health care conference. Over 300 high school students from diverse/ low-income areas come to UCSF. We aim to expose students to careers in health care.
4) "What Matters To Me Most and Why" Lunch and Learn series where dental faculty speak about why they chose to enter into academia
5) Faciltate UCSF's Academic Dental Careers Fellowship Program (ADCFP) which provides structured mentoring to dental students as they take on an academia related research project.

Our state pharmacy organization, California Pharmacy Association (CPhA) is also the largest of its kind; it is the mission of the California Pharmacists Association to promote the health of the public through the practice of pharmacy.

Even with efforts to increase the number of minority ethnic groups in science and medicine, the proportion of black men pursuing and obtaining degrees in these fields has reached a historic low. In 1986, 57% of black medical school graduates were men — but by 2015 that number had dropped to just 35%, even as the total number of black graduates in all fields had increased.1 By providing opportunities for networking, community-building, and mentorship, Black Men in Medicine at UCSF strives to dismantle the barriers that have perpetuated the dearth of black men in the field and act as a resource for those currently pursuing careers in medicine to find success.

The weekly Friday evening meeting from 5:30 to 9:00 pm is a fellowship for Chinese students, scholars, and their families living around the UCSF campus. Cardiac Camp at UCSF is an entirely free, hands-on learning experience for Underrepresented Minorities in Medicine, specifically Black, Latinx, Native American, and mainland Puerto Rican high school students from under-resourced school districts/regions of the Bay Area. During this week-long immersive experience, selected students will learn about the basic anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system, heart disease and prevention in early and late life, and be exposed to live cardiac testing modalities. These students will have the unique opportunity to not only build health literacy for themselves but to also disseminate basic health knowledge to the communities they arise from, with the hope of addressing the distrust in medical care that exists in underserved/disadvantaged communities.

In addition, students will be partnered with UCSF affiliated faculty and students who will provide longitudinal mentorship in their pursuit of higher education. Cardiac Camp will be funded by several Departments and Organizations at UCSF, such that all resources, lectures, and hands-on experiences are entirely free to students.

Carry the One Radio was founded in 2009 by Sama Ahmed, Karuna Meda, and Bryan Sebold, then students in the Neuroscience Graduate Program at the University of California, San Francisco. We got our start interviewing researchers about their work and posting our conversations online, hoping to make science accessible to everyone.

Our format has changed since then, but our mission has stayed the same: ignite scientific curiosity. Run by a small group of dedicated young scientists at UCSF, Carry the One aims to showcase what makes science so exciting - the joy of discovery, the beauty of nature, and the promise of a better tomorrow.

Access to dermatology is limited in many minority communities, resulting in numerous racial and socioeconomic health disparities.

Research shows that Black and Latinx communities are more likely to be diagnosed with melanoma at later stages, less likely to receive systemic treatment for psoriasis, and more likely to have active atopic dermatitis when compared to white populations.

This organization aims to teach young people from underserved areas how to take care of and protect their skin. We hope that by providing these educational resources we can work to improve skin health and reduce disparities in dermatology.

The Chamber Music Society at UCSF (CMS at UCSF) is a student-run organization dedicated to creating opportunities for UCSF student and residents to participate in chamber musical performance and community outreach. The Society encourages students and residents to share their artistic talents through free concerts at UCSF, as well as through outreach and benefit performances at local healthcare organizations such as rehabilitation and hospice care facilities. The Society organizes sight-reading sessions at the beginning of each semester for musicians to form longitudinal chamber music groups, and helps them prepare for performances at the end of each semester. In current medical school curriculums, especially on the west coast, medical students' exposure to the combined field of adult internal medicine and pediatrics is limited. While med-peds has a rich 40-year history, there is still currently a void of med-peds residency training programs in the Northwest US. This course will shed light on a lesser known, but highly valuable career path that offers the depth and breadth of two disciplines, as well as flexible career goals and a broad range of specialized patient niches, including ever-growing populations of children with serious and chronic illnesses that survive into adulthood with these same illnesses, for whom dually-trained physicians are well-matched.

The Internal-Medicine Pediatrics (Med-Peds) Interest Group presents an opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in internal medicine, pediatrics, or a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics (otherwise known as "med-peds") to be exposed to faculty members and careers within the combined med-peds field, including career pathways, training venues and opportunities, and the similarities and dissimilarities that exist between a med-peds program and separate medicine or pediatrics programs.

Within the carceral system, individuals experience a lack of autonomy and control over their own environments. In the medical realm, this manifests as a lack of trust and engagement between people who are incarcerated and practitioners. These factors contribute to the worse health outcomes for people who experience incarceration compared to the general public. We plan to create and host medical education workshops to empower people incarcerated to participate in their healthcare while dismantling medical mistrust by creating a space for those impacted by incarceration to be heard by future medical providers. We will also host meetings to spread awareness regarding the realities of healthcare for people who are incarcerated.

Established in 1986, the Native American Health Alliance (NAHA) is a staff RCO composed of UCSF staff, faculty, trainees and students of Native descent (and allies) who are working together to advance representation of Native Americans on campus. NAHA also promotes cultural understanding and an awareness of the health disparities affecting Native American/Alaskan Native peoples through educational programs and campus events.

The Neuro Health Initiative is committed to reducing the burden of stroke by advancing stroke literacy and prevention awareness, with a particular focus on underserved and historically marginalized communities. We seek to empower individuals, families, and caregivers through clear, culturally responsive, and accessible education on stroke risk factors, warning signs, and preventive strategies. Through community-centered education and outreach, we translate complex medical information into practical, easy-to-understand tools that support informed decision-making and timely action. As the initiative grows, we aim to expand our scope to include broader neuro health topics such as neurodevelopmental disorders, seizure conditions, traumatic brain injury, and other neurological conditions.

The Organization for Alternative Therapeutics (OAT) is dedicated to promoting awareness, understanding, and responsible use of natural and herbal medicines among students, peers, and the broader community. Our mission is to advocate for informed health decision-making by providing clear, accessible, and evidence-based education that helps individuals understand what they consume and how these products affect their health.

OAT seeks to address misinformation and misunderstandings about natural and herbal medicines through a critical and educational approach. Through events such as Lunch & Learn sessions, interactive workshops, and guest speaker events, we explore the historical origins and cultural significance of natural medicines, examine international and traditional practices, review scientific literature and clinical outcomes, and evaluate the safety, quality, and regulation of commonly used products. Our programming emphasizes identifying misleading marketing claims, recognizing red flags in supplements, and understanding potential risks, benefits, and drug–supplement interactions.

By fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and open awareness, OAT aims to empower those who are curious to take greater ownership of their health, advocate for themselves and others, and expand their understanding of healthcare beyond conventional medications. Past students (those that are already in a periodontal program) will be able to share their experiences of applying to various periodontal programs. The mission of the Period Education & Empowerment Project (PEEP) is to empower youth through medically accurate, age-appropriate, and stigma-free menstrual health education. PEEP improves access to information, reduces stigma around menstruation, and supports adolescents in understanding what is healthy while providing free menstrual products.

PEEP partners with the Period Education Project (a physician-created 501(c)(3) nonprofit), the San Francisco District 5 Supervisor Bilal Mahmood’s Office, youth-oriented organizations, and menstrual product vendors to deliver community-centered education and access.

Pharmacy Homeless Clinic seeks to provide student pharmacists opportunities to practice clinical skills and apply therapeutic knowledge towards serving patients experiencing houselessness at severe shelter clinics across San Francisco. Student volunteers at the Pharmacy Homeless Clinic work collaboratively with preceptors in an interdisciplinary setting to interview and assess patients, create treatment plans, and counsel on both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic recommendations.

The objective of Phi Delta Chi Pharmacy Fraternity is to advance the science of pharmacy and foster fraternal spirit among its members. PDC provides student pharmacists the opportunity to network with upperclassmen and alumni. We host many events for incoming student pharmacists, such as a professional night information session of alumni working in various fields of pharmacy and informal academic review sessions. We hold fundraisers for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. We give presentations to local undergraduate pre-pharmacy clubs about pharmacy school, and we hold a community service event quarterly. Because it is a national pharmacy fraternity, PDC members have the opportunity to attend leader development seminars and to network with other pharmacists and students from all over the country. Our goals are to promote professionalism within the field of pharmacy, to act as a support network for its members, and to emphasize a well-rounded pharmacy school experience.

Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS) is a national pharmacy leadership society comprised of pharmacy students, practitioners, and professors. PLS was first founded in 1965 at Auburn University and, as of 2019, 127 chapters are active at pharmacy schools across the United States and Puerto Rico. Our mission is to support pharmacy leadership commitment by recognizing leaders and fostering leadership development.

The Beta Beta chapter at UCSF School of Pharmacy was established in 1993. As a leadership society, we strive to: 1) Ensure continuing availability of pharmacy leaders, 2) Acknowledge leadership achievement, 3) Enhance the skills of pharmacy leaders, and 4) Encourage sustained leadership commitment. Notable PLS Beta Beta Chapter members include B. Joseph Guglielmo, Mary Anne Koda-Kimble, Don Kishi, Sharon Youmans, Jennifer Cocohoba, Marilyn Stebbins, Lisa Kroon, and Jaekyu Shin. Currently, our chapter has ~25 student members, ~100 faculty members, and ~400 alumni.
